Reflection

This is the final post for this class.

For my final reflection I would like to say that I truly enjoyed this class and I learned so much about software programs that will be useful for my future career. Through research and weekly assignments, I was able to discover the ways technology is becoming more and more incorporated into the education field.

My technical skills progressed greatly and I was able to grow in my time-management skills as well. Looking at new technological trends each week, I was able to expand my knowledge on the issues and see just closely I will be working with them when I am a teacher. I was very surprised that halfway through the class just how comfortable I started to become with the various programs.

Surprisingly, iMovie, the program I felt most comfortable with caused me the most trouble. All the other editing and video programs did not give me any trouble what so ever. This blog was the easiest thing for me this semester because it was something I am more familiar with and felt that the website was very easy to navigate.

My work this semester gradually improved with the weekly assignments and my knowledge on the topic. At first I was a little nervous coming into this class because I did not know much about certain technological trends, but now I am very glad that I have these skills to bring into my future career. I will take these new strengths and expertise with me through my college experience.

Thank you 🙂

Storybird

This week’s assignment was to create a picture book on through Storybird.

The title of my picture book is: Reasons for the Seasons.

After reviewing the artwork on the website, I chose to talk about the seasons because I really enjoyed this particular style and I felt that the pictures went well with my story. My book is intended for students in 3rd grade or below. You could find this book in the classroom library or as a book to help with vocabulary and learning the seasons.

When creating the book, I first looked at what pictures I had to work with and based the story around the pictures. I really enjoyed the process and thought it was very easy to figure out.

I think that this would benefit me greatly in the future as a tool I never thought I would use! I could use this program to make personalized lessons and incorporate topics we discuss in class into a book. Students can also use this program for projects and it will help me as a teacher to see there understanding on the topic and their creativity levels!

Inquiry Cycle

In this week’s assignment we were to make a ThingLink project.

My ThingLink has links to different pictures, articles, videos, and audio to help you further understand what the Inquiry Cycle is and how it works in the classroom and with students.

This was my first ThingLink project and I do like it. It takes some time to get comfortable with all the buttons and options, but after playing with it for a little I was able to create a really cool project.

Cybersecurity Tips

In this week’s assignment we were to create a Piktochart on the topic of Cybersecurity.

I chose to use the topic of “Cybersecurity Tips” as my focus.

Even in a world centered around technology, cybersecurity is a topic that is not always known about or even talked about. The use of technology is a great means of communication; however, it can also bring destruction and thief in another’s life. Some tips on cybersecurity include: 1. it is best to have privacy settings on and only allow people you know “in real life” follow and have access to your sites, 2. use strong passwords, 3. use safe networks, especially when online shopping or giving out personal information, and 4. understand that whatever you put on the internet or on social networks can, and most likely, will be taken from you, most of the time without you knowing it.

Keep these tips in mind the next time you are scrolling through facebook or instagram.

Chromebook’s in the Classroom

This week’s assignment was a group project on trends in technology. Sofia and I presented on the growing trend of chromebooks in the classroom. Sofia was in charge of introduction, what they are used for, the future, and her own personal reflection. I was in charge of advantages & disadvantages, my own reflection, references, and all editing.

It was a great way to use teamwork and also research on technology that we will use in our future career. I believe that technology is growing fast and is an awesome way to incorporate a variety of learning methods into the classroom.

ARCS Model Comic Strip

In this week’s assignment, we were to create a comic strip demonstrating areas in the ARCS Model.

My comic strip follows a lesson plan about understanding the alphabet for 1st graders. The students are to be given a letter from the alphabet and bring in an item that starts with their letter. In my comic strip I used an aspect of relevance by modeling an example.

I created a whole comic on toondoo and it was going great until I tried to save and go back and review. I would not use toondoo again in the future because it did not allow me to submit my assignment. I have used Canva many times before so I would definitely recommend.

Before this assignment, I kind of forgot about comic strips for educational purposes, so I believe, especially with the elementary aged students, a comic would be a very great teaching tool.
